Episode 51: Reader expectations in cozy mystery with Traci Hilton

Hi, folks. This week on the show, we’re taking a deep dive into reader expectations in the cozy mystery subgenre in my chat with author Traci Hilton.

Have you ever wondered just what the difference is between cozy mystery and other kinds of mystery? Curious about this cute and murderous subgenre? Listen in for all the details of what readers are looking to get out of their cozies.

Transcript again coming at a later date, I’m afraid. We’re at the crunch time of the school year, with my husband both a teacher and a doctoral student, so we’re a bit swamped for just a couple more weeks.

About Traci:

When not writing, Traci knits socks, and accompanies her mandolin playing husband on the spoons.

As Traci Tyne Hilton, she’s the author of the several Christian mystery series, including the Plain Jane Mysteries.

As Tess Rothery she’ll be launching the Taylor Quinn Mysteries, a general market cozy series.

She’s taught indie publishing at  the Oregon Christian Writers Summer Coaching Conference in 2016 and in September 2015, at the national conference for the American Christian Fiction Writers. She was the Mystery/Suspense Category winner for the 2012 Christian Writers of the West Phoenix Rattler Contest, and has a Drammy from the Portland Civic Theatre Guild. She served as the Vice President of the Portland chapter of the American Christian Fiction Writers Association for two terms.

She has a degree in history from Portland State University and still lives in the rainiest part of the Pacific Northwest with her goofy family and two small dogs.

  1. I enjoy books authored as “Tess Rothery.” I listen to audiobooks while sewing. Reminds me of Janet Evanovic’s literary style.

  2. Thank you, I found this podcast informative and useful in my writing. I have almost finished my second book (cozy mystery in a small town) and will be editing with the comments in mind.
